Turning computational code into an architectural anchor.

3D printed lighting installation for Kalki BAroda
3D printed lighting installation featuring elongated, spherical forms suspended elegantly, complementing the artistic ceiling design at Kalki Baroda.

Commissioned for kalki's flagship destination in Baroda—with spatial design envisioned by Restore Design—the Suspended Popsicle Lamps redefine vertical circulation across a dramatic 7-meter stairwell drop.

Rather than treating the stairwell as a simple transition between floors, the installation transforms the void into an evolving spatial journey. As you ascend from the ground level to the mezzanine, parametric clusters taper, billow, and shift from every perspective—creating a dynamic dialogue of contour, shadow, and soft glow.

The Craft Behind the Form:

Installation in progress: Workers carefully position a series of 3D printed light spheres as part of a creative lighting installation, using scaffolding to reach the high ceiling area.

Industrial Additive Manufacturing: Bypassing traditional molds and heavy tooling, the entire piece was realized through large-format 3D printing.

Engineered Lightness: Printed in recyclable, high-performance PETG with algorithmically optimized infill patterns to protect ceiling slabs from excess structural load.

3D Printed Light Installation: View from BelowThe view from the bottom of a 3D printed light installation offers a unique perspective that highlights the intricate details and design elements. Here are some key features to consider:Structural Design: Observe the geometric patterns and shapes that contribute to the installation's aesthetic.Light Diffusion: Notice how the light interacts with the printed material, creating interesting shadows and highlights.Material Texture: Examine the surface texture of the 3D printed components, which can vary based on printing techniques.Mounting Mechanism: Look for the way the installation is secured or suspended, providing insight into its stability and design considerations.Wiring and Components: If visible, consider how the electrical components are integrated into the design, ensuring functionality without compromising aesthetics. This perspective not only reveals the craftsmanship involved in the creation of the light installation but also offers a chance to appreciate the interplay of light and form from a different angle.
